Georgia is missing out on a tool used by 30 other states to strengthen hardworking families and build healthier communities. A Georgia Work Credit (or state Earned Income Tax Credit) provides a bottom-up tax cut to workers receiving low wages.

A state EITC would cut taxes for up to 1.1 million Georgia families and put up to $500 of their hard-earned wages back in their pockets. Research has demonstrated that this policy would incentivize work, improve health outcomes, grow the middle class, and increase economic activity in communities statewide.
The targeted design of the credit rewards work because as wages rise, the credit grows in value to encourage recipients to stay employed and work more hours. This legislation would invest over $140 million in working Georgia families, providing a springboard to move the needle in the areas where our state faces the greatest needs.
